Nikka Coffey Grain is a Japanese whiskey made from Coffey distilled alembic wheat, a particular variant imported in 1963 directly from Scotland. This particular alembic was invented by the Irish Aeneas Coffey in the first half of the nineteenth century and is still used today for the production of wheat whiskey because it is able to best extract the essence of the bean, giving an incomparable taste. Intense straw yellow color, the nose wraps with sweet spicy notes of vanilla and tropical fruit, mango and dried apricot, together with clear hints of corn and popcorn. The tasting is soft, welcoming and gentle, with numerous fruity hints of grapefruit and melon, an alcoholic note present but perfectly integrated which leads to a long persistence of biscuit and spices.
