Lancers Rosé is an easy-to-drink wine produced from a blend of fine Portuguese vines. Lancers Rosé is an extremely versatile wine to be enjoyed alone or with salads, pasta, Mexican, Indian and Chinese food.
Lancers was launched in 1944, after Henry Behar visited Europe with the aim of finding a rosé wine that could be particularly attractive to the American palate. His research ended in Portugal, more precisely in the Palmela region, in the famous cellars of José Maria da Fonseca. There he found the moderately sweet and sparkling rosé wine he was looking for.
The wine was christened "Lancieri" in homage to one of Behar's favorite paintings: "Las Lanzas" by Velázquez. Produced with the best Portuguese vines, Lancer's first shipment arrived in the United States in late 1944. The distributor was Vintages Wines.
In 1964 Henry Behar and his associates sold Vintage Wines to Hublein Inc., which became Lancer's exclusive distributor in the United States and began expanding into new markets around the world. Lancer sales have increased significantly in the United States, reaching 1 million cases in the late 1970s.
Currently Lancers continues to be a success story, with a worldwide presence and one of the best-selling Portuguese wines in the world.
